Electron Microscope Observations on the Behavior of the Bacterial Cytoplasmic Membrane During Cellular Division

چکیده

Bacterial cells were fixed in OsO(4), washed, dehydrated, and embedded in a methacrylate mixture. Ultrathin sections were cut on a Porter-Blum ultramicrotome and were examined in an RCA electron microscope, type EMU-2D. The sections revealed that the cytoplasmic membrane undergoes a centripetal growth to form a membrane septum. This septum is formed as a double structure. Constriction of the daughter cells and deposition of cell wall material lead to the separation of the daughter cells. The bacterial cytoplasm appears to consist largely of 200 A granules and occasionally reveals arrays of parallel dense lines.

Studies on the Fine Structure of Microorganisms

The fine structure of cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae engaged in the formation of ascospores was studied in electron micrographs of ultrathin sections. Although the mode of the first reduction division could not be clearly determined, the second nuclear division appeared to proceed in a manner similar to that observed previously during vegetative division. That is, division by constriction of...

Light and electron microscope of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) organs following exposure to various sublethal concentrations of diazinon

Histopathological effects of different sublethal concentrations (1, 2 and 4 mg/l) of diazinon, an organophosphorus pesticide, on gill, liver, spleen and kidney of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were studied after 1, 7, 15, 30 and 45 days post-exposing fishes weighting 850 ± 155 g to the toxicant for 12 hours at 18-22ºC. In addition, tissues of nostril were examined for transmission electr...

The Study of Antibacterial Effects of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees. and Cuminum cyminum L. Essential Oil on Morphology of Bacillus cereus with Use of Transmission of Electron Microscopy (TEM)

Background: Bacillus cereus is a spore-forming food-borne pathogen often associated with food products such as meat, vegetables, soup, rice, and milk and other dairy products. 1 - 20 % of total outbreaks of food intoxication in the world are caused by Bacillus cereus. There is an increasing interest in the use of plant-derived antimicrobial compounds as natural preservatives for foods. Such as ...
